Did the HKTag Challenge whet your appetite? Fancy your chances at the 2018 Tag World Cup?
Last weekend saw an epic tag battle between 12 domestic teams competing for the first trophy of the 2018 season: the Redsip HKTag Challenge. The eventual winners, Bacchus, claimed a 5–4 victory in a tightly fought final against Kingfish. Fresh from the success of this event, the HKTag team will be running several beginners’ workshops in the coming months alongside the usual packed summer schedule of Tag for All sessions and competitions.
Tag for All
Tag for All is an ideal entry point for tag rugby in Hong Kong – it is great for fitness and caters for all ages, genders and abilities, with beginners getting the chance to familiarise themselves with the sport, rules and techniques. For experienced players, these sessions offer the opportunity to train, meet existing teams, or even form a new team ahead of the HKTag Super League at the end of the summer. HKTag announces Tag for All sessions every week on the hktag.org website, Facebook and Instagram pages and in the HKTag MeetUp group.
2018 Tag World Cup
The Tag 2018 World Cup will take place 1-4 November 2018, in Coffs Harbour, Australia. HKTag is actively recruiting Hong Kong eligible players for this amateur competition, the biggest event on the international Tag calendar. Selection takes place across May and June 2018 and interested players should get in touch as soon as possible at info@hktag.org.
Domestic competition
The summer is when everything kicks off for HKTag and it’s not too late to get involved in the competition! The next tournament will take place on 7 July, a Battle of Origin between the ‘north’ (New Territories and Kowloon) and ‘south’ (Hong Kong Island) of Hong Kong. For the second year running, there will be both men’s and women’s fixtures.
Hot on the heels comes the HKTag Super League, running throughout August, where we can expect a high number of returning players from the HKTag Challenge, alongside new and established squads from the 2017 season. It’s the chance for long-standing rivals to settle scores and for new teams to flex their muscle in this high quality field.
